Library The library of the State Archives has approximately 82,000 publications including books, periodicals and booklets from the late 19th century up to the present. As to the subject the library includes publications on history, archival matters, justice, military studies, statistics, economy and culture, and reference books. Numerous are institutional publications, among these rare issues. History: academic publications, textbooks and memoirs related to Estonian history; rich collection of literature on military history from various periods; legal and illegal communist literature from earlier periods: publications on international workers’ movement, including materials on KOMINTERN, underground leaflets, etc; publications of political movements and parties from the period of the re-establishment of Estonia’s independence; newest literature from abroad on the recent history of the former socialist countries of East Europe. Archival research: literature on the history of archives and their arrangement; literature on the persons and institutions the records of which are preserved in the State Archives; publications issued by Estonian archives, methodological material, academic studies based on the documents of the State Archives; recent literature from abroad on archival studies. Institutional publications: laws, regulations and decrees of higher and local authorities and government bodies; published statutes of institutions, organizations, associations, unions, etc, their reports, budgets, regulations, directions, member lists, etc; publications and theses of the former Institute of History of the Estonian Communist Party; secret publications on the intelligence operations of the KGB. Latest acquisitions prefer academic and popular publications on the recent history of Estonia and the Baltic states (1917-1992) and archival literature, especially that published abroad.
